Want to switch to another room?
Experience has shown that most students end up very happy with their room in residence, but if you would like to switch rooms, you can use this forum to find someone to switch with!
Please note that students in Year Round Housing can only switch with a student in the same residence area and room type. To move to a new residence area or room type, students in Year Round Housing must apply for a transfer online.

Sublessees: be aware of fraudulent sublet offers—especially offers on non-UBC websites, such as Facebook, Craigslist, etc. Red flags: if the price is too good to be true, or they ask for cash only, a cash security deposit or money to be wired in advance. Before you begin, know how to avoid scams.

For first year residents who are not planning or able to return home during the break, one accommodation option is to stay in the room of an upper year resident who will be away from UBC throughout the break.

Are you a first year resident who needs winter break accommodation? Are you an upper year resident who would like to lend their room? Search or post on this forum to connect.
Do we need to apply to lend/borrow a room?
Yes, once you’ve made arrangements to lend/borrow a room during the break, the upper year student will need to request approval from UBC Student Housing using a Winter Break Room Lend Form.
Where can we get the Room Lend form?
Request one at any upper year residence front desk or, for Ritsumeikan-UBC residents, the Orchard Commons front desk. Forms are not available at the Place Vanier or Totem Park front desks.

Not sure if a sublet is legitimate? Contact us for assistance.
If you are concerned that a sublet offer might be fraudulent, or to simply confirm details before proceeding, please contact the Student Housing Main Office.
Please be ready to provide the following information:
- The address, including the room/unit number, for the sublet offer/listing.
